Louise Gardiner Pottery, Jewellery, Photography - A17
Louise says, "I have been creating most of my life using a variety of mediums. I love to learn and am intrigued with process. My ceramic work is mostly wheel thrown, a process I find relaxing and brings rhythm and centeredness to my soul. The forms that inspire me are designed with function in mind. The addition of vibrant colour and line drawings transports domestic functionality into pleasurable art.
Travel has significantly influenced my artistic development and has informed my surface design and colour palette. My time spent on the East Coast of Canada with its red soil and brightly coloured houses fuels my passion to work in red clay with jewel-toned glazes. The Art Nouveau designs of the wrought iron and architecture of Paris inspires me to experiment with simple line drawings. I am fortunate to have family on Gotland, an unusual and beautiful island in the Baltic off the mainland of Sweden. My travels there over the years have deeply influenced my photographic work and inspired my jewelry creations. The preserved architecture is diverse, stunning, and the subject of much of my photography. My jewelry reflects a traditional Northern Swedish handicraft style of braided pewter threads on reindeer leather.
My creative energy to make handmade, functional objects arises out of a desire to brighten and enhance everyday life. My hope is that my creations will bring sunshine and a smile to those who use them."
